George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic following the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS.
Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 win in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment except for George Springer with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but commended their work this season.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.
Toronto's team secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
