The skiing legend Optimistic of Being 'in prime form' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after claiming a podium spot for the fourth instance in five World Cup competitions.

The 41-year-old, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Racing in the iconic venue for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in early 2019 as a result of persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 after a significant orthopedic procedure.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She already possesses one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has won over a career spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
