The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
