When an teenage makes Real Madrid history in a pivotal European tie against Manchester City, it naturally attracts acclaim and attention.
In only his first start in the tournament - and fifth game for the club - the young midfielder suitably impressed as the 15-time European champions secured a 3-0 last-16 first leg lead at the Bernabeu.
The teenager, who also made his Real debut in the play-off round a few weeks prior with a substitute appearance at Benfica, then assisted Los Blancos defeat the English champions in the midweek return to secure a last eight place.
At 18 years and 226 days, Pitarch was the team's most youthful starter to start twice in the Champions League's latter rounds, beating Brazil forward Vinicius Jr's record by 10 days.
The midfielder is the most recent to come through from the famed youth system and is quickly establishing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most exciting protegees.
He signed for Madrid from CD Leganes in the summer of 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico Madrid and Getafe youth teams, and initially featuring for the Juvenil C team, where he rapidly created a positive impact.
Pitarch worked his way up to the reserve side and it was in a pre-season game in which they played against the senior squad, then coached by the former defender, where the teenager is said to have drawn the eye of the present manager, who replaced the previous coach in January.
Reports would later describe the moment as "love at first sight," adding Pitarch excelled not only for his skill on the ball, but for the vitality, character and drive he brought to the team.
In the summer of 2025, ex-manager Alonso invited Pitarch to train with the senior squad and awarded him minutes in the warm-up matches.
However, it was the change in manager that became the turning point in his career as he came on as a late substitute in both ties against Benfica that led to the meeting with Pep Guardiola's team.
"I've dreamed of this every night when sleeping, the first day I began playing football, each day you head to training and every day you have a game," said the player following his first appearance.
"I've just achieved my dream with the best team in the world and in the best competition."
Handed a starting debut in La Liga against his former club - where he spent four years after moving from Atletico in 2018 - he has retained his place for the following four as fitness issues to Jude Bellingham and Ceballos created an opening.
Pitarch has seized it with performances that have defied his age and experience.
"He is a very quick player, and you can observe his capabilities," remarked the coach. "He is incredibly dynamic, with excellent stamina, effort and movement."
Pitarch's mentality has also impressed his manager.
"His greatest quality is his character," added he. "He constantly demands the possession, and when pressed, he doesn't feel it.
"I realize people are surprised to watch him make his debut in a Champions League match, but he's playing because I had complete trust in him to perform what he usually does.
"Thiago will keep receiving chances with the main squad. It is delightful to coach a talent like him."
Born in a Madrid suburb, in the Spanish capital's community, and grew up fully immersed in the local game, moving through local academies before entering the club's famous youth academy.
He possesses both Spanish and Moroccan nationality, giving him the choice to play for either country at the highest level.
According to Fifa eligibility rules, footballers may represent multiple nations at junior level without being permanently tied, with the ultimate choice only final once they play in a official full international.
Pitarch has played for Spain at youth level, representing both the under-19 and under-20 teams, and participated in the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, where La Roja made it to the quarter-finals.
Nevertheless, he has not yet decided to either senior national team, who are watching his rise with keen attention.
In a recent interview, Pitarch confirmed: "I have not taken my final decision yet. My situation is great with the Spanish federation, but I will reach a decision in the near future."
His situation echoes that of other bi-national talents such as Real team-mate Diaz and Barcelona forward Yamal. While 18-year-old Yamal chose Spain, Brahim decided to represent the Atlas Lions.
For now, Pitarch's focus is on making his mark in the Madrid lineup and repaying his manager's belief.
He played 74 minutes in the 2-1 win at the Etihad, which sealed a five-one overall triumph and a quarter-final tie with the German champions.
His substitution by fellow youth graduate in Manuel Angel underscored the coach's confidence in younger players to help the team pursue trophies to come.
After his notable contributions to date on European football's biggest stage, the midfielder is tipped to play a key role in that.
"The manager treats me the same. We handle it very naturally. I attempt not to think about it excessively - I must deserve my minutes on the pitch," he commented after the win at Etihad Stadium.
