It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
