The Lionesses take on China – Women's Friendly International

Introduction

Hello and welcome to the exhibition game between the English side and the Chinese squad at the iconic Wembley. An exciting encounter is anticipated with the reigning European champions taking on the holders of the Asian Cup title.

England’s national stadium is fully booked for the match, which will see Fran Kirby honored pre-match after her retirement from the national team before the Euros this past summer.

Squad announcements will be revealed soon, but there was a last minute squad update for England. On Friday, Khiara Keating withdrew from the squad with a small issue, and so former number one Ellie Roebuck has been added to the squad.

With Hannah Hampton injured, it will be interesting to see who the Lionesses' coach Sarina Wiegman selects in goal. Those details along with further updates are incoming before kick-off at 5.30pm GMT.

Squad Updates

The lineups have been announced. Anna Moorhouse starts in goal for England in the unavailability of Hannah Hampton and Khiara Keating.

England's starting eleven: Moorhouse, Bronze, Charles, Walsh, Le Tissier, Morgan, Mead, Stanway, Russo, Toone, Hemp.

Bench: Hings, Baggaley, Kendall, Wubben-Moy, Beever-Jones, Kelly, Kearns, Park, Blindkilde Brown, Roebuck, Clinton, Denton, Fisk, Godfrey.

We are awaiting the Chinese lineup now; as soon as I have it, I will share it.

Leadership Role

Keira Walsh is serving as captain for the Lionesses with Leah Williamson still injured. She shared these thoughts before this encounter:

Maunch Appearance

Tonight’s game will be Anna Moorhouse’s debut for England. She featured in the Euro-winning side who won this past summer, but she did not feature with Hannah Hampton in the number one shirt.
