NFL Play-Off Picture: Key Deciders & Scenarios for the Final Week.

NFL teams in action
Baltimore faces off against Pittsburgh to determine the AFC North, while San Francisco and Seattle clash for the #1 spot in the NFC.

Entering the final week of the regular NFL campaign, just two play-off spots are still up for grabs. Yet, far more is on the line, including the coveted #1 rankings in each conference and four division titles.

NFL schedulers have produced a perfect ending, with the final two postseason places on the line in a pair of winner-take-all contests.

NFL Postseason Picture as of Week 18

AFC Standings

  1. Denver (13-3)
  2. New England (13-3)
  3. Jacksonville (12-4)
  4. Pittsburgh (9-7) / Baltimore (8-8)
  5. Houston (11-5)
  6. L.A. Chargers (11-5)
  7. Buffalo Bills (11-5)

The winner of the Pittsburgh-Baltimore game will secure the fourth seed and a home game in the first playoff round. At the same time, the Bills and the Chargers are locked in as wildcard teams.

Houston need a win and a Jaguars defeat to climb from the fifth seed to the third seed. The Broncos will earn the #1 ranking with a win, but a loss could pave the way for the Patriots or the Jaguars to snatch it.

NFC Standings

  1. Seattle (13-3)
  2. Chicago Bears (11-5)
  3. Philadelphia Eagles (11-5)
  4. Carolina Panthers (8-8) / Tampa Bay (7-9)
  5. San Francisco (12-4)
  6. L.A. Rams (11-5)
  7. Green Bay (9-6)

The NFC South will be claimed by the victor of the Carolina-Tampa Bay game, earning them the #4 position. However, the Panthers could still claim the division even with a loss, depending on other results.

Green Bay are set at the seventh spot. The marquee matchup, though, is the clash for the #1 seed in the NFC between Seattle and San Francisco, with a first-round bye and home playoff games hanging in the balance.

Understanding the NFL Play-Off Format

The top seed in each conference earns a crucial first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the play-offs.

On the Wild Card round, the remaining six playoff teams face off: the second seed plays the #7 team, third hosts sixth, and fourth hosts fifth.

In the second round, the top seeds enter the fray, hosting the lowest remaining seed. The AFC and NFC championship games are then played at the best remaining team, underscoring the immense value of securing that top spot.

AFC North Decider: A Brutal Finale

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers (01:20, Monday)

This bitter rivalry comes to a head in the final game of the NFL season. The divisional title and a play-off berth at stake, this is a true win-or-go-home situation.

Pittsburgh have been up and down all year, while Baltimore struggled early but remain in contention. Key injuries could be decisive: The Steelers may be without star receiver DK Metcalf, while the Ravens' quarterback Lamar Jackson is questionable with a back injury.

Running back Derrick Henry could be the difference-maker for Baltimore in what promises to be a hard-hitting, low-scoring battle.

Battle for #1 in the NFC

Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers (01:00, Sunday)

Not only the division title is on the line when Seattle visits the 49ers. The victorious team claims the conference's #1 spot and the road to the championship game that it provides.

This game pits an explosive San Francisco attack against a stingy Seahawks defense. With QB Brock Purdy came back, San Francisco have been the NFL's top offense. On the other hand, Seattle's unit is ranked second best in the league.

The Seahawks' QB their passer must avoid mistakes that have haunted him this year. Whoever wins this clash gains a huge edge for the playoff run.

The NFC South's Uncertain Finish

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (21:30 Saturday)

Neither team enters this contest with much momentum. Tampa Bay have lost seven of eight, while the Panthers have squandered chances to secure the title.

The Panthers it's straightforward: a victory gets them in. The Buccaneers, the scenario is trickier. Even with a win, they require help from the Atlanta-New Orleans matchup to claim the divisional championship.

AFC's Top Seed Up for Grabs

Tennessee Titans @ Jacksonville Jaguars (18:00, Sunday)
Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots (21:25, Sunday)
Los Angeles Chargers @ Denver Broncos (21:25, Sunday)

Denver hold the cards for the AFC's top seed. A victory over a L.A. Chargers team likely to rest key players seals it.

If the Broncos lose, the door opens for the Patriots. A New England victory combined with a Broncos loss would give the #1 ranking to Bill Belichick's team.

Jacksonville are the dark horse. They require a win and defeats for both Denver and New England to pull off an improbable rise to the top. More pressingly, a Jaguars loss could see them passed by the Texans in the AFC South.
