A senior Russian army officer has been fatally wounded following an detonation in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.

The attack happened on Monday morning when an explosive device planted beneath a vehicle exploded, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' operational training department.

Investigators stated that one line of inquiry involves the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has offered no public response.
